On Saturday Sept. 4, 2010 I did a rug hooking demonstration at Gunn Memorial Library in Washington Connecticut. The program was a great success. The museum curator Stephen Bartkus opened with a short talk about the history of rug hooking and showed some of the rugs in the museum’s collection. I shared my history with the art of rug hooking, how I got started and about teaching the craft. I talked about different types of hooking and showed examples of my rugs. It was a very enthusiastic group that shared their history or a relatives’ interest in rug hooking. Many good questions and I think we all learned a lot.
We got to see a rug one of the ladies hooked that is in the museum’s show. A lovely rug of Lake Waramaug. Another lady brought some of her mother’s rugs that were hooked in the last 10 years of her life. They were exceptional and I was happy to see them.
This is one of the rugs I designed, hooked and brought to the program.
